About
Hunger and Homelessness Action Week
What is Action Week?
Hunger and Homelessness Action Week (HHAW) is an annual program of the GMU Campus Ministry Association (CMA). The goal of the week is to promote greater awareness of the needs of hungry and homeless people in our community, in the United States, and around the world, and to challenge the entire university community—regardless of religious belief—to take action on their behalf.
The CMA wants to involve the whole GMU community in HHAW, we would love to a variety of other groups, organizations, and departments on campus.
Why Hunger and Homelessness?
The Campus Ministry Association talks about how concern for the hungry and homeless is a common theme across faith traditions. Some quotations from sacred texts and prominent figures in our diverse faith traditions appear in the right margin of this website, each randomly selected from a growing list we are compiling.
What makes up Action Week?
HHAW consists of a variety of events, some larger events sponsored by the whole CMA—which form the backbone of the week, when we challenge the whole campus to participate, as well as a number of smaller-scale events that are sponsored by individual campus ministries or other campus organizations, departments, or other groups on campus.
If you are part of an organization that would like to sponsor an event, please contact Ben Buss [LCM] at bbuss@gmu.edu or 703-829-0220.
